Jameel Campbell was wanted by the New York Police Department for his involvement in a homicide that occurred in September 2020, according to Lr. Kevin Fair, an Atlantic City police spokesman.
Authorities received a tip that the fugitive was staying in Atlantic City, Fair said on Thursday.
Members of the DEA Liberty Mid-Atlantic High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force, Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, and Atlantic City Police Department’s Special Investigations Section and SWAT Team arrested Campbell without incident, Fair said.
More details about the alleged homicide were not released.
“This investigation is a true example of law enforcement working together at all levels to successfully arrest a very dangerous individual,” said Special Agent in Charge of the DEA’s New Jersey Division Susan A. Gibson. “During this operation all steps were taken to ensure the safety of the public, and because of the arrest of Jameel Campbell the community is much safer.”
Interim Officer in Charge James Sarkos said, “Through this teamwork, we were able to remove a violent individual from our streets and hopefully brought some closure to the victim’s family.”
Campbell was charged as a fugitive from justice and is being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
